Description

A comforting classic dish made with ground meat and mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup yellow onions, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground meat for about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add diced onions and carrots to the skillet; sauté until onions are translucent (about 5 minutes).
  4. Stir in peas, Worcestershire sauce, thyme (or rosemary), salt, and pepper; cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  5. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15-20 minutes). Drain, then mash with butter and milk until creamy.
  6. Layer the meat mixture in a baking dish and top evenly with mashed potatoes.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using a mix of lamb and beef.
  • This dish can be topped with cheese before baking for an extra cheesy crust.
