Description

Delicious beef-filled pita pockets topped with fresh vegetables and tzatziki sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 pita pockets
  • 1 cup diced cucumber
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes softened and translucent, releasing its fragrance.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until the beef is browned evenly and cooked through, ensuring there are no pink parts remaining.
  3. Stir in ground cumin, ground paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Continue to cook the mixture for another 2 minutes to allow the spices to blend well with the beef. Remove skillet from heat.
  4. Warm the pita pockets in a toaster or an oven until they are soft and pliable, which makes stuffing easier and enhances flavor.
  5. Carefully cut each warmed pita in half to form pockets without tearing them.
  6. Fill each pita pocket with the cooked ground beef mixture, then top generously with diced cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, and chopped fresh parsley.
  7. Drizzle the tzatziki sauce over the fillings inside each pita pocket just before serving for a creamy and tangy finish.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the beef with spices beforehand.
