Description

A delicious sandwich made with shaved ribeye steak, Gruyère cheese, and caramelized onions.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz shaved ribeye steak
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 4 slices sourdough or rustic white bread
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions by cooking them in a skillet over medium-low heat with a bit of butter or oil for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. In another pan, sear the shaved ribeye steak with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder over medium-high heat until just cooked through.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer cheese, steak, caramelized onions, and another layer of cheese. Top with the second bread slice, buttered side out.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Grill the sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing down gently, until both sides are golden and the cheese has melted.
  5. Let the sandwich rest for a minute, then slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using different types of cheese.
  • Make sure to adjust the salt and pepper according to taste.
  • For a crunchier sandwich, use a cast iron skillet while grilling.
